One of the themes that interests me is questioning our relationship with nature - is it possible, given how far from nature we are? This distance can produce a feeling of grief and separation.
These drawings consist of imagery pulled out of a mass of marks, scribbles and slashes, a primordial mass, suggestive of potentialities. Faces appear, swooning, dreaming, trance-like, turning away from light, into shadow. The texture suggests movement and energy. In dreams there is often a group of shadowy accompanying figures. Some geometric lines begin to suggest symbols and diagrams. Frottage leaves make a quotation from actuality, a level removed from photographic, but still a direct record.
